4th August 2017 – New Zealand Teachers Games – coming soon 

The New Zealand Secondary Schools Sport Council (NZSSSC) is proud to bring you the inaugural New Zealand Teachers Games in the 2017 term 3 holidays from Sunday 1st to Tuesday 3rd October in beautiful Mt Manganui and the Bay of Plenty region

The New Zealand Teachers Games are an opportunity for teachers and support staff to have some fun with their colleagues, to compete seriously or socially and to enjoy each other’s company on and off the sports field. With options for all levels of ability, fitness and competitiveness, social and sporting activities, the NZTG has something for everyone providing a setting for staff to relax, to network socially and professionally and to experience all the fun that being physically active and part of a team can bring. More info here.

 

Press Release – Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ) CEO

6th April -Physical Education New Zealand (PENZ) has announced the appointment of Richard van der Jagt as their new CEO.  He has already assumed the position and started on Monday the 6th of March. Richard will succeed Ross Merrett, who stepped down as CEO of PENZ to become the Sport Development Officer for Surf Life Saving New Zealand in November 2016.

Richard holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Post graduate certificate in Business Research Methodology from the University of Waikato.

He comes to PENZ from a secondary and tertiary teaching and educational management background with superior business experience and skills. Richard has been employed as General Manager at Teaching-Education Management- Administration (TEMA) since the end of 2012.  TEMA specialized in working collaboratively with schools to break open new international markets such as Mexico and Colombia for international student recruitment.

Richard’s previous experience also includes among others Massey University and the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic nee (Toi Ohomai), in the roles of Business Development and International Manager, and formerly as the Business Manager for the establishment of Massey Worldwide. He has a wide experience of strategic planning and digital marketing skills.

Richard is looking forward building on the strong platform that PENZ has established to ensure that quality physical education is understood valued and practiced, particularly with respect to Maori and integrated learning across curriculum areas.

In private, Richard enjoys spending time on his family’s export avocado orchard, coaching and playing sports with his four children and partner Alison, who is a practicing GP with a focus on women and young people’s health.

24th April 2017 – Appointment of new Office Manager – Claire Waring

Claire Waring has recently joined the team at PENZ and will be your main contact when dealing with membership enquiries. Claire comes from a commercial background with 17 years experience in sales and marketing, having worked in various service industry roles in the UK, New Zealand, Australia and now back here in New Zealand. Claire holds a BA Honours degree in International Marketing and Business and has recently completed a Diploma in Digital Marketing through the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the UK. If she is not juggling work with looking after her family, Claire enjoys running and has competed in several half marathons as well as her 1st Marathon at the Gold Coast in 2015.
