He was a Head of Department before moving to the Auckland College of Education, where he became Programme Leader of the Bachelor of Physical Education.  Then, after ACE merged with the University of Auckland, he became Deputy Dean of the Faculty and led the introduction of the Bachelor of Sport, Health and Physical Education.  It has been a career of passionate advocacy for PE, with a strong orientation for social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
