Te lho-Takaro Ringawera Award

Te lho-Takaro Ringawera Award

Harko Brown

This award is incredibly special, and can only be awarded by the PENZ Board for contributions to the physical education profession. It is often awarded for work that is done in obscurity to someone who works humbly and tirelessly for the profession. Their work is highly prized just like the distinguished and respected work of a ‘ringawera’ on the marae. It is considered ‘golden’ work.

With every game played and every smile shared, his legacy as a kaitiaki of Ngā taonga tākaro continues to inspire, empower, and bridge the past and future of physical education. His unwavering efforts are truly ‘golden’ and we honour Harko for his mahi and contribution to physical education in Aotearoa.

Te Iho-Takaro Ringawera

This award is made by the Physical Education New Zealand Board for contributions to the profession that may be leftfield because at times they will be removed from the day-to-day work of Physical Education.  The contribution is “golden” in that it is often done in obscurity but is highly prized as in the distinguished and respected work of a ‘ringawera’. This annual award will be passed on from one awardee to the next at the award ceremony at National Conference. Nominations are not called for this award.
